Jammu, May 27 (KNO): Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi will be a part of a mega cultural evening to be organised by the Jammu Tourism Department on Wednesday at Octroi Border Outpost on Zero Line in Suchetgarh at Ranbir Singh Pura along the International Border, some 30-kms from here, official sources told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) on Tuesday. Popular for its Wagah-Attari-style structured parade by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, the tourist village of Suchetgarh along the IB faced a major blow during the recent military conflict between India and Pakistan. Pertinently, Indian armed forces conducted missile strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on May 7 in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 civilians dead. In response, Pakistan launched intense mortar and artillery shelling and drone attacks in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) and other regions. The two countries agreed to cease military actions on May 10. This was the first major event at border out post ‘Operation Sindoor’, in which Indian armed forced, lunched multiple strikes and destroyed around nine terrorist camps across border including in Sailkot, which is just 11 kilometers from the post. Jammu Tourism is organising a cultural evening on Wednesday evening at Octroi BoP in which Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi is the special guest,” said an official of Jammu Tourism. He said that the actress will be interacting with the armed forces who have been on the forefront during ‘Operation Sindoor’ and also with affected families of cross-border shelling. He stated that the visit is also organised with regards to the revival of the Jammu Tourism and meeting with all the stakeholders of the tourism industry. “Entry is free for the visitors and we hope with the situation normalised to a larger extent, the tourism sector will soon flourish in Jammu,” the official said. Suchetgarh was opened up for tourism following a renewed ceasefire agreement announced by India and Pakistan in February 2021. That agreement brought major relief to people living along the IB and Line of Control (LoC). India shares a 3,323-kilometre-long border with Pakistan, of which 221 kilometres is the IB and 744 kilometres is the LoC within J&K—(KNO)
